PILATES : BODY CONTROL

Picture

My personal experience with Pilates.

I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Pilates back in the early 1980s when very few people had heard about it. I was working out regularly at my local sports center , but would often experience low back ache the next morning . This only encouraged me to work out even harder under the misguided notion that I had to develop my back muscles even more in order to support my spine to stop it aching. This proved to be futile and caused further regular discomfort .
At this point my partner suggested Pilates to me .

There were very few places in the early 1980s but she mentioned a studio that had been running for several years in London. I promptly booked myself in for an hour's session. That one hour session totally changed everything that I had ever thought about in terms of looking after  and maintaining my body. That one session was enough  to resolve my lower back ache .

Pilates compliments Osteopathy.

Pilates is concomitant with osteopathy which provides a profound understanding  in anatomy and most importantly ,  in body mechanics. With this knowledge the application of Pilates style exercises can be channeled into resolving long standing mechanical problems. It is a wonderful way to capitalize on a treatment by improving  and maintaining joint mobility by regularly servicing the muscles with key Pilates actions to break the body out of a cycle of regular destructive habits.

The Benefits of Pilates

  •   Improved flexibility, strength and joint mobility.
  •   Co-ordination and balance.
  •   Postural improvement .
  •   Stress reduction.
