Back specialists are concerned with maintaining and improving the range of motion (R.O.M) of every man, woman and child , even animals ! Human beings rely on their bodies to transport them from A to B throughout their lives . Unfortunately , almost 80% of the population will have anything from a minor to a major problem with their backs and everything else attached to them.
Rather like cars , there are a number of vital parts, the most important of which are the shock absorbers , namely the intervertebral discs which are situated between the vertebral bones of the spinal column. The vast majority of injuries occur with the back. The degree of damage varies from one person to another, and can manifest itself from not being able to get out of a chair to trouble with the stairs, or not being able to lift. Back pain need not necessarily be due to physical trauma but can reflect problems with e.g. the kidneys or the heart . Back pain can arise quite simply as a result of fatigue or stress or loss of conditioning due to lack of exercice, or as a consequence of repetitive actions and that includes poor posture. In particular, poor postural habits which are often aided and maintained by inappropriate seating, can insidiously undermine even the strongest spines.
Over the last 32 years that I have been treating and helping back sufferers, the most enduring feature that is universal amongst all those that I have helped is the loss of MOBILILTY which more often than not is accompanied by PAIN that can be relatively mild to being so extreme that those affected are frightened to breathe !
Mobility..........Mobililty..........Mobility. I cannot repeat this enough times to all those that I help. However tedious or tiring or boring it may be, it is quintessential for your body's well being. Like the picture of fresh flowing water, without mobility the action of that vital pump, the heart, is diminished which in turn leads to a loss of oxygenated blood and nutrition to all those vital structures supporting and maintaining the physical body.
Spines, in general, respond well to manipulative treatment as do other areas of the body such as shoulders, hips and knees.
Naturally, certain factors like age and genes causing physical anomalies can constantly undermine the body's ability to maintain itself, but even in these situations there is often a way to improve some of the more aggressive conditions afflicting people.
Here are a few of the conditions that Back Specialists regularly deal with :
- Acute and chronic back pain involving any part of the spine.
- Neck and shoulder pain.
- Sports induced injuries.
- Repetitive Strain Injuries(RSI)
- Arthritic conditions.
- Stress-related problems, i.e. headaches,indigestion.
- Trauma due to accidents.
